Why well control certification does not carry crew judgement
Well control training is mandatory and well designed. IADC WellSharp certification is renewed on a cycle, and every driller on a rig holds it.
Certification demonstrates that a driller knows the procedure and can execute it in a simulator. It does not transfer the recognition that comes before the procedure — the moment a hand looks at the trip tank and decides something is wrong while the numbers are still inside tolerance. That is what distinguishes crews, and it is not what the certificate measures.
